In Michigan, the most common place for a majlis is the basement: it is large, it stays out of the way of daily life, and it can host a big family gathering. A floor sofa suits it well if the floor is dry and the seating sits on a rug, never on bare concrete. We deliver by UPS to every Michigan address, from Dearborn and Detroit's suburbs to Grand Rapids, Lansing, and small towns in the Upper Peninsula, in 4 to 5 business days with duties paid.
Is a basement a good place for a floor sofa?
Yes, if it is a finished, dry basement. Foam absorbs moisture, so damp is the one thing to avoid.
- Check for moisture first. Tape a square of plastic to the concrete for two days. Condensation under it means the floor is damp; fix that before furnishing.
- Run a dehumidifier in summer and keep humidity around 50 percent or lower.
- Use a rug and a rug pad. Seating should never sit directly on concrete, even sealed concrete, because it is cold and can collect moisture.
- Leave a small gap between the backrests and an exterior foundation wall so air can move.

What about posts, stairs, and the furnace room?
Michigan basements rarely have four clean walls. A support post in the middle, a staircase on one side, a furnace room door, and small windows high on the wall all break up the space. Standard sets work where you have long straight walls. Where you do not, we make a custom layout: bases cut to the length between the stairs and the corner, a run that stops short of the furnace door, or seating on three walls around a center post.
| Basement feature | How the layout handles it |
|---|---|
| Support post in the room | Keep it inside the open center, use it for a small shelf or lamp |
| Staircase along a wall | Seating starts after the last step; base cut to the remaining length |
| Furnace or laundry door | Leave the door swing clear; end the run before it |
| Egress window | Keep the window well reachable; no backrests blocking it |
Send wall lengths and photos; we reply with a layout and the full price, shipping and duties included, before you pay. Custom sets take longer to prepare, and we confirm the date with the quote.
What if the set arrives in winter?
The foam is vacuum-packed. If the boxes have been sitting on a cold porch, bring them inside and let them reach room temperature for a few hours before opening. Foam recovers its shape more slowly when cold. Once opened in a warm room, it returns to full shape within 24 hours. See setup in 6 steps.

Frequently asked questions
Do you deliver to the Upper Peninsula and northern Michigan?
Yes. Every Michigan street address UPS serves gets the same 4 to 5 business days, however far north.
4-inch or 8-inch for a basement?
8-inch if it is the family's main gathering room or older relatives will sit for long; 4-inch for a lighter playroom or prayer space. See 4-inch vs 8-inch.
How do I get it down the basement stairs?
The set comes in UPS boxes, two for an L and three for a U. If a box is awkward on a tight turn, open it upstairs and carry the soft pieces down one at a time.
Can you build a layout around a support post?
Yes. Send a sketch with the post marked and we plan the seating around it.
