An L-shaped majlis fits a corner and seats five to six. A U-shaped majlis wraps three sides and seats eight to nine. The right one depends on your wall length, how many people you host, and where the door is.

Pick an L-shaped majlis for a corner and for everyday family seating of five to six people. Pick a U-shaped majlis if you have a free wall of at least 130 inches and regularly host eight or more. The pieces are the same size in both; the U adds a third base cushion and more backrests.

When is an L shape the better choice?
- Your room has one usable corner. Doors, windows, or a TV wall leave two walls free.
- You want floor space. An L leaves two sides of the room open, which matters in apartments.
- It is daily family seating. Five to six seats cover most households.
- You want to spend less. The L starts $420 below the U.
When is a U shape the better choice?
- You host often. Eid, iftar, game nights, or a large family. Everyone faces the center.
- You have a dedicated room. A den, basement, or formal sitting room with three free walls.
- You want the classic majlis feel. Seating on three sides is the traditional arrangement for receiving guests.
How do you check which one fits?
- Measure your longest free wall at floor level.
- Under 102 inches: consider a loveseat or a custom size.
- 102 to 129 inches: L shape.
- 130 inches or more, with 75 inches free on both sides: U shape is possible.
- Then check the door. A U needs the open side to face the entrance, or guests will have to step over the seating.
Can an L become a U later?
Often, yes. The U is an L plus one more base cushion, two large and one small backrest, and an armrest. If your fabric is still in production we can make the extra pieces. Send us your order number to check.
Can either be rearranged?
Yes. Nothing is attached. An L can become one 150-inch bench or two facing benches. A U can become an L plus a separate daybed for a guest room.
