An Arabic floor sofa works well in California homes because it fits open-plan rooms without blocking the view, can be cut to a bay window, and comes in colors that stay fresh in strong sunlight. We ship by UPS to every California address, from Los Angeles and the Bay Area to small towns in the Central Valley and the mountains, in 4 to 5 business days with import duties already paid.
How do you place floor seating in an open-plan room?
Many California homes have one large space for kitchen, dining, and living. Low seating keeps sight lines open, so the person cooking can still see the room.
- Face the seating toward the kitchen or the garden doors, not toward a wall. An L-shaped set (102 x 75 in) can define the living zone on its own, without a back-of-sofa wall.
- Use the rug as the border. The rug marks where the living room ends and the dining area begins.
- Leave about 30 inches between the open side of the seating and the kitchen island for a walking path.

Can a floor sofa fit a bay window?
Yes, and it is one of the best uses for it. Bay windows are common in older California homes, especially in San Francisco. A standard base is straight, so it leaves the angled sides of the bay empty. A custom order solves this: we cut the bases to the length of each wall of the bay, so the window becomes a reading nook or a small majlis.
- Measure each of the three window walls at floor level.
- Measure the depth from the window to the line of the room.
- Send the numbers and a photo; we reply with a layout and a full price, shipping and duties included, before you pay.
Base depth stays at 27.5 inches, so a very shallow bay may suit a single run on the back wall instead. Custom sets take longer to prepare; we confirm the date with the quote.
Which colors hold up in California sunlight?
| Room light | Colors that work | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Full afternoon sun | Turquoise, yellow, light brown | Lighter, warmer tones show gradual fading less |
| Bright but indirect | Green, blue, red | Strong colors stay vivid |
| Dim or north-facing | Red, maroon | Warm colors brighten a darker room |
Strong sun fades any fabric over time. Sheer curtains in the hottest hours keep colors longer. Daylight in California is bright and cool, so a color can look different than on your screen; the Majlis Sample Box lets you hold the swatches against your own walls first. More in how to choose a color.

What about a small apartment?
In a studio or one-bedroom in a dense city, a 75-inch loveseat or a 37-inch half loveseat is usually enough. Everything arrives vacuum-packed, so there is no frame to fit through the door. See floor seating for small apartments.

Frequently asked questions
Do you deliver to rural California?
Yes. Any street address UPS serves, from the coast to the Sierra foothills, gets the same 4 to 5 business days.
Is the 4-inch or 8-inch better for a California living room?
8-inch for main seating you use every day; 4-inch for a lighter, more casual look or a second room. See 4-inch vs 8-inch.
Can I keep it on a covered patio?
For an evening, yes. It is indoor fabric, so bring it inside afterward. See outdoor majlis.
Can you make a set for an L-shaped bay or an alcove?
Yes. Send the measurements of each wall and a photo, and we quote bases cut to fit.
